The demand for skilled health care employees continues to grow so you can be sure that there’ll be a job for you in the future.
We’ll prepare you for a wide range of jobs in the health and social care fields. The NHS, private sector, local authorities and the armed forces all employ health care apprentices.
We’ll provide an employer or placement, all the training, advice, support and guidance you need. The rest is down to you!
What’s in the Apprenticeship?
Most of your learning happens on the job, learning from experienced work colleagues. There’s some time away from work to learn and practice new skills.
What you need to do:
You’ll need to be smart and well presented.
You’ll need to enjoy working with people – you’ll need lots of patience and to keep calm under pressure.
You’ll need to enjoy working with people – you’ll be patient and good at listening.
You’ll need to be prepared to work the hours required by your employer – we’ll make sure that these are reasonable.
You need to be on time and to behave in a professional way to make a good impression.
The rewards are really worth it – you’re improving other people’s lives.
How long does an Apprenticeship last?
It’s about showing that you can do the job to national standards so it depends on how fast you learn.
If you left school with no other experience in customer care, you could achieve your Apprenticeship in around 14 months.
What qualifications can I get?
You can achieve:
- A National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Health and Social Care proving you’re skilled.
- A Technical Certificate that shows you have the knowledge you need.
- Practical work skills in communications, using numbers and ICT.
By law, you must have an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check before you can start work. We’ll sort this out for you.

How much can I earn when I’m trained?
This depends on where you live and your exact job role. Starting salaries for health care jobs are about £13,000 a year. There are often extra payments for shift work which is common in this industry. To get a better idea, look at vacancies for these kinds of jobs in your local paper.
