Not a patch on this lot: Scooping a Scottish Achievers Award at Holyrood was the Cabbage Patch Nursery near Motherwell - which has been helping budding childcarers to bloom. Lanarkshire learner Robert Paul, who faced a nine mile haul to get to his work placement, was also honoured at the Scottish Parliament building.

Paige opens new chapter: Rathbone Bolton geared-up for the launch of a new motor vehicle repair shop – with the help of 17-year-old trainee mechanic, Paige Rawlinson. Our Chorley Street centre also now boasts a unit for those wanting to get on to the construction ladder.

Dominating achievers awards: Soccer mad Luton lad Dominic Honegan grabbed the Pre-16 trophy at Rathbone’s first-ever Midlands and South Achievers Awards held in Birmingham. Also taking the floor was Leicester learner Josh Diieso-Swatman - who developed a Kung Fu technique for disabled people.

Singing Ana’s praises: BBC broadcaster Ranvir Singh was amongst those to congratulate Carlisle apprentice Anastasia Relph on becoming a North West Achiever of the Year 2009. A spell at Rathbone Carlisle using a new computer program named Dragon helped Ana overcome dyslexia and progress in her career.

On the level - on the national news: Trainee Bury bricklayers and childcarers appeared on the BBC One O’clock News to let the nation know what they’ve been doing to build a career. The limelight certainly suited the centre’s first female construction worker Becky Wharmby – she landed a full-time role with local firm Casey’s shortly afterwards.

Kamran on the right tracks: Four charities – including Rathbone – helped launch Lifetracks in London and Bristol. The Vodafone funded project aims to get young people back into education by offering them plenty of incentives. Volunteering helped Whitechapel lad Kamran Hussain gain a sense of self-worth and saw him saluted with a Rathbone UK Achievers Award.

How we helped you Rhonda!: A Corby woman took on an apprenticeship with Rathbone – at the tender age of 64! Big hearted Rhonda Jackson simply wanted to become better at looking after older folks at the Shire Lodge Nursing Home – and so started her confidence-boosting qualification.

Meet the happy wanderers: James Davis returned to the Reebok Stadium to meet premiership players from Bolton Wanderers. The trainee car mechanic, who once played schoolboy football on the hallowed turf, was rewarded for getting his life in gear with a match day seat – courtesy of local solicitors, Fieldings Porter.

Terrence wins Rathbone’s vote: Newport’s Terrence Edwards won a Rathbone UK Achievers Award at the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. Looking after his grandparents full-time meant that the Gwent lad struggled a bit at high school but a spell spent working at an old folk’s home convinced Terrence to pursue a career as a carer.

Robbin’ hoods of their dodgy image: Stylish Shannon Kenny fashioned a great idea to bring young and old together – by designing hoodies for grannies! The Chorley trainee pitched her idea to a fiery dragon’s den jury at Lancaster University and won plenty of plaudits.

There’s more than one Michael Owen: Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson discovered that one of his players had a successful namesake – when he passed congratulations on to Rathbone’s Michael Owen. A project helping to construct a scoreboard for a local cricket club made Bury based Mike believe building was the trade for him.
